Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups green cabbage, coarsely chopped
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup uncooked white rice
  • 4 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté diced onions and minced garlic until fragrant and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef to the pot, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned, around 7 minutes; drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in coarsely chopped cabbage and cook until slightly wilted, approximately 3 minutes.
  4. Pour in tomato sauce and beef broth; add uncooked rice along with dried oregano and basil. Mix well.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for about 20 minutes until flavors meld and rice is cooked.
  6. Serve hot, optionally topped with fresh parsley.
