Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 medium fresh apples (about 2 cups diced)
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (for glaze)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
  3. In another bowl, melt the butter and let it cool slightly before whisking in eggs, vanilla extract, and maple syrup.
  4. Fold in the diced apples into the wet mixture.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined—lumps are okay!
  6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean but moist.
  7. While cooling, mix powdered sugar with maple syrup for glazing.
  8. Drizzle glaze over cooled brownies and slice into squares.

Keywords: To keep apples crisp, peel and chop them first and soak in lemon juice while preparing the batter. For an extra twist, add chocolate chips or swap maple glaze for cream cheese frosting.
