Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee (cooled)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for frosting)
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the butter mixture, alternating with brewed coffee until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and smooth tops. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  6. For the buttercream, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, heavy cream, and caramel sauce until desired consistency is reached.
  7. Frost cooled cake layers with buttercream and decorate as desired.
