Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk, warm (about 110°F)
  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. In another bowl, whisk flour, salt, and remaining sugar. Mix in melted butter and eggs to the yeast mixture, then gradually add dry ingredients until combined.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour.
  3. Prepare the filling by tossing diced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle on parchment paper. Spread softened butter over it, sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mix, and layer with apple filling.
  5. Roll the dough tightly into a log shape and pinch seams. Cut lengthwise to see the layers and twist together before placing in greased loaf pans.
  6. Let rise for another half-hour while preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
