Instructions

  1. Soak the dried navy beans overnight in plenty of water.
  2. In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy (about 5-7 minutes). Remove and chop.
  3. Sauté the diced onion in the bacon drippings until translucent (3-4 minutes).
  4. In a large bowl, combine soaked beans, chopped bacon, sautéed onion, molasses, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard powder, salt, pepper, and water or broth; mix well.
  5. Transfer to a slow cooker or oven-safe pot; cook on low for 6-8 hours or bake covered at 300°F (150°C) for 2-3 hours.
  6. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
