Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 2 medium sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 slices marble rye bread
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp of butter and cook the sliced onions until soft and golden brown.
  2. Shape the ground beef into two patties, season with salt and pepper, and cook in another skillet over medium-high heat for about 4 minutes per side until browned.
  3. Once cooked through (internal temp of 160°F), place cheese on top of each patty, cover with a lid for 1-2 minutes until melted.
  4. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. In a clean skillet, place one slice butter-side down, add the cheesy patty and caramelized onions, then top with another slice of bread.
  5. Cook sandwiches over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
