Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 1 cup Guinness stout
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Frosting
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Cake
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large saucepan, combine the Guinness stout and melted butter. Heat over medium until the butter is melted, then remove from heat.
  3. Whisk in the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Add this mixture to the Guinness mixture and stir until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Prepare the Frosting
  1. In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until creamy and smooth.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until well combined. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, mixing until fluffy.
  3. Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top of the cake.
