Ingredients

For the Base
  • 12 ounces penne pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey for a lighter option
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Topping
  • 3 cups frozen tater tots
  • ¼ cup ketchup for drizzling
  • ¼ cup mustard for drizzling

Method

Cooking the Base
  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Drain excess fat, then stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Add the penne pasta and beef broth to the skillet. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until pasta is al dente.
  4. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and well combined.
Adding Tater Tots
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Spread the frozen tater tots evenly over the top of the pasta mixture in the skillet.
  3. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
Finishing Touches
  1. Remove from oven and drizzle with ketchup and mustard before serving.
  2. Let cool for a few minutes, then serve hot and enjoy!
