Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Frosting
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Topping
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries sliced

Method
 

Bake the Cake
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Prepare the Frosting
  1. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
Assemble the Cake
  1. Place one layer of the cooled cake on a serving plate.
  2. Spread a layer of frosting over the top of the first cake layer.
  3. Top with a layer of sliced strawberries.
  4. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
  5. Garnish the top with additional sliced strawberries.

Notes
